Profiles

Who is it for?

Leisure

You want to fly a Mini or an Air at the beach, in the countryside or on holiday. The A1/A3 is enough: start there.

We recommend A1/A3

Photo and video

You shoot weddings, property or landscapes and need to get close to people and buildings with a drone over 250 g.

We recommend A2

New professional

You are going to work with drones in urban environments. The A2 is the natural step before the STS.

We recommend A2 → STS
Limits of the A2 subcategory

What you can and cannot do

The limits are set by Regulation (EU) 2019/947. This is what the A2 certificate allows, on top of what the A1/A3 already covers.

You can
  • Fly up to 120 m above the ground
  • Class C2 drones (up to 4 kg) at 30 m from uninvolved people, or 5 m in low-speed mode
  • Operate in urban and residential environments within the open category
  • Always fly within visual line of sight (VLOS), by day and at night with lights
  • Recreational and professional use within the open category
You cannot
  • Fly over assemblies of people
  • Fly over uninvolved people: only the A1 allows that, with C0 or C1 drones
  • Fly drones over 4 kg close to people: beyond that, the specific category (STS)
  • Fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) or in controlled airspace without coordination
  • Sit the exam without holding the A1/A3 and the practical self-training declaration
